Meet the Kea!

The KEA Lab takes its name and inspiration from the kea, a remarkable parrot native to New Zealand. The world’s only alpine parrot, kea are famous for their extraordinary curiosity, playful intelligence, and problem-solving skills—traits that often lead them to explore new environments, test boundaries, and learn through interaction.

Much like the kea, our lab is dedicated to discovery and exploration, seeking to understand how early experiences shape children’s development and resilience. The kea’s bold, social nature reflects our commitment to collaboration, innovation, and approaching complex questions with creativity and persistence.

Help save the world’s only alpine parrot

  • Donate to the Kea Conservation Trust

Donors are directly responsible for helping save our unique New Zealand mountain parrot. With their generous donations, Kea Conservation Trust is able to carry out vital work to help better understand kea and the threats impacting on them, as well as to encourage the wider national and international community to get on board and save this most charismatic parrot.

  • Volunteer with the Kea Conservation Trust

The Kea Conservation Trust was set up in 2006 to assist in conservation of wild Kea (Nestor notabilis) in their natural habitat and to increase the husbandry standards and advocacy potential of those Kea held in captive facilities within New Zealand.
